The Chesterton-Porter Rotary Club recently honored Chesterton High School senior and Varsity swim team member, Kyle Whitaker as the Student of the Month.

During the club’s weekly meeting, Kyle talked to the club about his start in swimming at the age of five years old.   His participation in the sport continued through middle school and into high school, where he has broken several long-standing state records.  Kyle looks forward to the start of a new season as part of the CHS swim team that has won back-to-back State Championships.  Swimming has also given him the opportunity to travel abroad as part of the U.S. Junior National Team where he has competed in Melbourne, Australia and Guam.  Next month, Lyle travels to Sweden for competition.  While undecided on where to attend college, Kyle is considering the University of Michigan and Arizona State.

Claudia Neri served as Kyle’s host for the Rotary meeting.  As part of the Student of the Month award, Kyle received a framed certificate recognizing this honor, a Rotary pen, and a $50 savings bond.  Also, a $25 donation will be made in his name to the Duneland Education Foundation.
