Carmichael Young Leader Competition
Bill Carmichael’s life was a testament to the Rotary motto, “Service above self.” As a Porter County Commissioner and a Porter County Councilman, he helped shape the community we live in today. During his three terms as a Porter County Council member, Carmichael often championed county funding for social service programs and court programs assisting juveniles.
Bill Carmichael was also a long-time member and president of the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District. In addition to Bill’s leadership in government, he was active in the Chesterton-Porter Rotary Club, participated in the formation of the local YMCA, and was a charter member of the North Porter County Conservation Club.
To honor Bill Carmichael and to promote civic leadership, the Carmichael Young Leader Competition promotes the qualities of leadership in CHS senior high school students by showcasing their writing, public speaking, and creative skills.
Participants will be judged based on the academic record, essay, talent, and short responses to topical questions during the live event.
A maximum of 10 students will be selected for the live event, which will be held in Winter/Spring 2011. This event will feature each contestant in their talent and short responses to topical questions.
