STRIVE

What does STRIVE stand for?

STRIVE stands for Students Taking Renewed Interest in the Value of Education.

What is STRIVE?

The Chesterton-Porter Rotary Club STRIVE program works with Chesterton High School for the purpose of motivating students to improve their school performance throughout their 4 years at the school.   The major aspect of the program is that it is student driven and only facilitated by  Rotarians. This program is FUN and INTERACTIVE.

Which students are targeted to participate in this program?

The Chesterton-Porter Rotary Club chooses students for the program with the help of teachers and administrators at Chesterton High School.  Since STRIVE is voluntary program, the student and the parent(s) are asked to sign a commitment form. Once enrolled in the STRIVE program, the students are encouraged to improve their:

  • Attendance
  • Attitude
  • GPA
  • Participation

Focus:

Working one-on-one with students in high school to:

  • Instill in our students an expectation of graduation and commitment to continuing their education
  • Encourage them to be responsible and productive citizens
  • Encourage them to “give back” to their community

We contribute to a thriving community by setting higher standards, developing innovative programs, and believing in ourselves, and our students.

Student Commitment:

  • Attend school and class regularly
  • Increase GPA
  • Successfully pass all courses
  • Attend all STRIVE functions – with legitimate exceptions for verified illness and extra-curricular activity conflict
  • Participate fully in all programs.
  • Not attending meetings may result in disconnection from program.

Rotary Partner Commitment:

Building trust with student and caring about the student by:

  • Attending initial STRIVE dinner with student at Rotary
  • Attending Year-End Celebration with student at Rotary
  • Attending STRIVE dinner programs with student
  • Attending STRIVE special events.

The scope of a STRIVE partnership is determined by each participant and what we are willing to share.  The sky is the limit!

The Chesterton-Porter Rotary Club encourage the 8 Cs in both Rotarians and students:

  • Curiosity
  • Compassion
  • Confidence
  • Courage
  • Clarity
  • Creativity
  • Connection
  • Calm

A STRIVE partnership evolves one step at a time.  Take a first step.  As a Rotarian, give two hours  of your time each month.  As a Student, accept a friendship with someone who can make a difference in your future.
