Club Donates to Rebuilding Together

The Chesterton Porter Rotary Club recently donated $1000.00 to Rebuilding Together Duneland.  Pictured are Rebuilding Together Duneland Construction Coordinator Mike Dunlap and Rotary Club President Jim Anton.  Meeting Tuesdays at 11:45 at the Westchester Library Service Center, the Chesterton Porter Rotary Club is one of 31,000 clubs in over 167 countries with a membership of 1.2 million.  www.rotary.org or  www.dunelandrotary.com for more information about Rotary. January Student of the Month

Congratulations to Chesterton High School Senior, Riley Taubert, who was named the Student of the Month on January 4 by the Chesterton-Porter Rotary.

Riley, represented the International Baccalaureate Program, which is a program that allows students to learn, study and attain college credits for courses based on international education criteria.  She has been on the Principal’s Honor roll since fifth grade, is captain of the varsity basketball and volleyball teams and has been a Scholar Athlete since 2007.  She also is a member of Club Earth and Reading and Spanish clubs.

She plans to pursue studies in chemistry and biology in college and a degree in Medicine.

Rotarians give to Westchester Food Pantry

On Wednesday night, December 15th, the Chesterton – Porter Rotary Club hosted their annual Christmas Party.  Rotarians were asked to bring non-perishable items along with canned hams in support of the food pantry.  The response was overwhelming.  Shown are Rick Hokanson, Rotarian and Director of the Westchester Food Pantry and Rotary President Jim Anton.  There were 15 canned hams along with several bags of canned food donated.  Also during the festivities, the Club raised $817 to donate to the pantry.  Finally, Rotarian Tammy Bridegroom announced that an anonymous donor dropped off $500 in Wiseway gift certificates at the Duneland YMCA towards the cause.  The Westchester Food Panty will make its pre-Christmas distribution on December 21st.  Please consider the needs of others during this time.

The Chesterton-Porter Rotary recently welcomed Carmen Lynes into membership.  Carmen is the new assistant vice president and banking center manager for 1st Source Bank at their Indian Boundary Road location. Pictured are Club President Elect 2011-2012 Chuck Parkinson, Carmen Lynes, Club Sponsor David Perry and Club President Jim Anton. Carmen joins our club with past experience within the Michigan City Rotary Club working with their mentoring program.  The Chesterton Porter Rotary Club is now entering their second year of a STRIVE program.  STRIVE is the acronym for Students Taking Renewed Interest in the Value of Education.  For more information about STRIVE  club member Dr. Dan Keilman.  The Chesterton-Porter Rotary meets weekly on Tuesdays at 11:45 for lunch, fellowship and a brief topical program at the Westchester Library Service Center at 100 W. Indiana Ave in Chesterton.

2010 Board Installation Banquet

On June 8, 2010 the Chesterton-Porter Rotary Club held its annual installation banquet.  It was a fun filled night of fellowship and also marked the transition of officers within the Club.  Recognized for her efforts during her term as President was Christine Newton.  She was praised for her leadership of yet another successful year in Rotary.  The new board of directors was installed and a brief passing of the gavel ceremony to incoming President Jim Anton was held.  Newton was again recognized for her efforts and awarded her Presidential plaque by President Anton.  Also recognized that evening was Trent Albert who was awarded the Ed Pearson Memorial Award also known as the Rotarian of the Year.  The Chesterton-Porter Rotary Club is a philanthropic organization that serves the Duneland Community by making various donations and service projects.  Their efforts are supported by the four fundraisers done each year most notably the annual Fish Fry in April and the Chicken Barbeque in September.
